Metro Vancouver just launched a free new iPhone app to help people keep resources out of their trash.  Check out weRecycle on iTunes:


With weRecycle all you have to do is enter a material and hit search.  You’ll get a list of the closest donation and recycling facilities and a Google map that uses your iPhone’s current location.  Or you can enter another location like your home address.

I’m hoping you agree that weRecycle will help the region’s residents find convenient locations to donate and recycle unwanted materials, and that you’ll be kind enough to tell your social networks about it.

It’s fast, it’s free, it’ll move us closer to zero waste and we think it’s pretty awesome.

The City collects both garbage and recycling on your collection day.  Please see below for items that can be included in the Curbside Recycling Collection Program.  For more information, please call Engineering Operations at 604-526-4691

The BLUE BAG is used to recycle:
all newspaper
newspaper inserts

bundle or tie newspapers
include non-newsprint material (i.e. magazines, telephone books,
letters, glossy flyers, catalogues, shopping bags, etc.)
The YELLOW BAG is used to recycle mixed paper products such as:
magazines and catalogues
telephone books
junk mail
cereal boxes (flattened)
any products made of 100% paper
corrugated cardboard (cut into 12″ x 12″ pieces only)

DO NOT Include:
waxed paper
juice cartons (tetra packs)
gift or plastic wraps
plastic bags
soiled paper products (i.e. kleenex, napkins, pizza boxes, etc.)
The BLUE BOX is used to recycle:
glass bottles and jars
tin and aluminum cans
plastics code 1 to 5
Rinse items thoroughly, remove caps and FLATTEN all non-glass items

paint or toxic material cans
ceramics (plates, cups)
drinking glasses
code 6 and code 7 plastics
Important: Place your garbage and recycling at the curb or lane by 7:30 am on your collection day (to avoid loss of your recycling bags, place your bags out with your blue box when they are full)
